On the menu throughout the day are a variety of salads comprising fresh farm produce wherever possible and mouth-watering sweet and savoury pancakes. You'll find many international favourites like toasted cheese & tomato as well as scrumptious treats served on ciabattas or toasted paninis.

When the weather is chilly, a bowl of Sue's home-made soup or one of her specialty pasta dishes is always a good option. And if you're not in a hurry, the Beef & Guinness or Baboti are well worth waiting for. Or if you're simply in the mood for a sweet treat you can't go wrong with the chocolate brownies, scones and cream or freshly baked muffins.

Dinner is always a culinary delight - try the vegetable spring rolls, duck liver pate with toasted ciabatta or the baked Camembert with Melba toast. Main course specialties include, lamb shank, melt-in-the mouth lamb curry, oxtail and of course phenomenal Slow roasted duck in an orange brandy sauce. End your meal with one of Sue's outrageously decadent desserts.

Artist's Café - Market Square - 058 256 1404

A great location for watching the world go by: indoor seating, with the fireplace burning warm in winter, or cool comfortable outdoor seating where you can get lost in the views of the mountains and activities taking place on Clarens Square.

Breakfasts include a traditional Boere Breakfast but also caters for the Englishman, the French, the Early Birds and every one in between! Light meals including homemade Quiche and their famous savoury pancakes. Bread baskets are offered with a range of Toasties, healthy Open Sandwiches and Roosterkoek with different fillings which should not be missed. Grills and snack platters come highly recommended with all meats being locally sourced and hung, ready to be prepared to your liking. Those with a sweet tooth can choose from homemade cakes, waffles and pancakes.

The Artist’s Café is fully licensed and have a kiddies menu. Mellow music and relaxed ambiance appeal to the adults while the shady farm-stle playground is a safe space to let your little ones unwind.

Bon Appétit Deli & Bistro - 222 Main Street (opp NGK) - 079 873 1318

Owned by an avid dog lover (9 at last count), Bon Appétit Deli & Bistro has a large garden for your pups to sniff around while you are enjoying anything from a fresh croissant and cappuccino to a Moroccan Steak Roll on a ciabatta with fresh salad. The wide range of dishes offers breakfasts, platters, light meals and sweet treats, and the choice of over 30 teas, excellent coffee, artisan cheeses (many of the homemade by Valerie, the owner), deli treats, frozen take-home meals, chocolate fondues, homemade preserves and more, makes it a pleasant change to the normal bistro fare. Open Wednesday to Monday every week from 9am until late afternoon.

A visit to the Clarens Brewery has become an established tradition when visiting Clarens. Find a bench and watch the world go by while sampling from a range of award winning beers and ciders. Free tasters help you choose your favourite and they have a a delicious lunch menu focusing on German style sausages, local organic cheeses, local breads, relishes and pickles. A perfect accompaniment to their range of beverages. Kiddies haven't been left out and will love the cherry and apple juice. Homemade, of course!

A farm-stall that's well worth taking a drive to visit. Everything from local meats, deli goods, light meals, gifts and some of the best droëwors you'll find! Take the R712 toward Bethlehem an look out for it on the right hand side.
